Barry must be having some epic days because it seems he is always making people smile.
He’s been doing it for quite some time too—long before he found himself at The Bluffs on Manistee Lake.
Barry began making people smile as busboy at a popular restaurant in Midland. As he recalls, the woman who hired the painfully shy 17-year-old saw something in him and Barry ended up staying and managing the restaurant for nearly 20 years. “There was no way I could remain shy working there,” he said.
His pleasant smile and ability to relate and connect with people lead him to working with “Big Jim” Harvey, founder of International RV World, Bay City. “Jim and I are both believers in great customer service. We knew everybody’s name and truly treated them like family.”
After “Big Jim” went to the big RV Resort in the sky, Barry decided to combine his work experience with his desire to travel, which is how he eventually came to The Bluffs on Manistee Lake.
“I was travelling around in my RV for a business making area maps featuring local, small, independent businesses and I came across the Bluffs as they were just opening,” he recalls. “I thought to myself, this is a place I can help make into something.” Jamie and Maurine, owners of The Bluffs on Manistee Lake saw something as well and Barry quickly became part of the Bluffs family.
As the property manager, Barry oversees the maintenance of the RV resort as well as coordinating the sales and construction of the manufactured home community.
For Barry, coming to The Bluffs on Manistee Lake was a home coming of sorts.
“I loved camping in west Michigan as a kid with my five siblings,” Barry said. “Some of my favorite memories are of those times.”
That is what Barry hopes the guests and residents of The Bluffs on Manistee Lake experience when they come to the “55 and better” RV resort and home community, close to the shores of Lake Michigan.
“We’re building memories – the bluest skies and butterflies, how breathtaking it all is. Everybody here is so pleasant and having a good time. It’s just awesome!”
